Syzran Refinery Doubles Production of Green Marine Fuel

18 March 2022

Syzran Refinery, an enterprise of Rosneft Oil Company’s refining complex, increased production of RMLS 40, an environmentally friendly marine fuel with a sulphur content below 0.5%, to 110,000 tonnes in 2021. This is twice as much as in 2020.

The increase in output was achieved by using Rosneft’s new in-house vacuum gasoil hydrotreatment catalyst. The refinery has also optimised its marine fuel production and storage scheme by implementing internal product heating in the tanks.

High environmental standards of operation are the key element of the Rosneft’s strategy. RMLS 40 has a sulphur content of less than 0.5%, meeting the requirements of the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships and helping to minimise the environmental impact of waterborne transport.

Note for Editors:

RMLS 40 (Residual Marine Low Sulphur) is a low-sulphur marine fuel. The fuel is currently produced at the Company’s refineries in the Far East, Siberia, Bashkiria and Central Russia.

The technology for green marine fuels compliant with the relevant Russian and foreign standards is developed by the Rosneft Corporate Research and Development Complex.

Syzran Refinery produces more than 30 different petroleum products, which are in high market demand: motor gasolines and diesel fuels of highest emission standard, liquefied petroleum gas, bitumen and so on.
